Transform Your Classroom Management

Let me tell you about my first day of teaching. It was bad. It was REALLY bad. I was teaching kindergarten with 32 students in my class and no assistant. I remember in the afternoon I had the class gathered at the rug and all of a sudden the chaos began. Student after student started to pop up and wander around the room. One student was crawling under the tables. Another student was knocking bins of books onto the floor from my beautiful classroom library. The other students were talking over me and making loud noises. In that moment I didn’t know how to get us back on track so I called the office for help.

As a brand new first year teacher I felt defeated. Luckily that first day of school was on a Friday so I had the entire weekend to gather my courage to return to my classroom on the following Monday. Things didn’t magically improve overnight, but they did eventually get better. During the beginning of my teaching career I learned the importance of having strong classroom management systems and routines.
